You Must Harness the Power of
Self-Talk If You Want to Succeed

by Della Menechella

Learning how to use the power of self-talk for you, instead of against you, is one of the most important skills you can learn to create a successful business.

If you’re like most spiritual women business owners, your self-talk has been your biggest enemy. It tells you so many negative things – “Who do you think you are to be doing this?” “You’re not good enough, smart enough, skilled enough.” “There are so many people who are doing the same thing as you and they are much better than you.”

Can you relate to this?

If you can, I’m here to tell you that there is hope. You can learn to use the power of self-talk to help you achieve amazing success.

It’s All Made Up

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been involved in a transformational coaching program. I’m familiar with many of the concepts being taught in this program and I’m learning subtleties that are making a profound difference in the way I approach life.

One of the big things that stands out for me is stories. Specifically, the stories we tell ourselves and others.

If you’re like most women, you don’t pay too much attention to the stories you tell your yourself and other people. You just tell your stories as if they are reality and your life is totally affected by the stories you tell.

Let me explain.

Stories are NOT reality. They are just your perception of things. They are created based upon your beliefs and what you think is true. They are totally made up. And your stories can either limit you or they can encourage you to soar.

Power of Self-Talk – Positive or Negative

There’s a story about two shoe saleswomen who go to Africa to look for new business opportunities. When they get to the village, they notice that no one is wearing any shoes.

One woman immediately calls her manager and says, ‘There is no way I can sell anything here because no one wears shoes. I’m booking the next flight home.”

The other woman calls her manager and tells her, “I’m going to be staying here awhile. This place is a gold mine of opportunity. No one here wears any shoes!”

Both women encountered the same circumstance, but they told very different stories. The fact was that the people in this village were barefoot. Each woman made up a story of what that meant. Which story do you think was more empowering?

If you’ve been telling yourself stories about why you can’t achieve your vision, you don’t have to keep repeating them. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been telling them or how you came up with them. You can change them.

Remember, stories are made up. They aren’t true. They are just your perception of the situation.

If your current stories are not supporting you in getting where you want to go, get rid of them. Start telling yourself new stories about how you are going to achieve your big vision. Tell yourself that it will be easy and fun. Keep repeating these stories to yourself throughout your day. To make this even more powerful, spend time during your day imagining that you have already achieved your vision. Feel how wonderful it is to have manifested what you’ve been wanting for so long.

You don't need anyone's permission to change your limiting stories to positive, motivating ones. You, and only you, get to choose what you tell yourself.

The Universe is Listening

Here is a big reason for using the power of self-talk to tell your story the way you want it to be. The Universe is always listening to what you are telling yourself. It doesn’t judge whether your story is going to have a positive or negative effect. If you tell a story often enough, the Universe thinks that’s what you’re asking for. And because the Universe is totally benevolent and supportive, it always says YES to whatever you focus on. This is a Universal Law and it always works the same way.

Use this Universal principle to support you. If you want positive things to show up in your life, then only tell yourself positive stories.

If you want positive things to show up in your life,

then only tell yourself positive stories.

Positive Self-Talk Exercise

I am going to invite you to participate in a challenge. For the next 7 days, pay attention to the stories you tell. If they don’t make you feel good or they limit you from moving towards your vision, then tell a different story. Tell yourself any story that makes you feel inspired, motivated, and empowered.

Once you do this exercise for 7 days, then repeat it for another week. After you’ve completed the second week, then add a third, and a fourth, and so on. You get my drift. Don’t stop using this positive power of self-talk technique.

Create a new habit. Only tell yourself stories that feel good and help you to be inspired and optimistic.

You get to choose what the story of your life will be. Use the power of self-talk to make it a happy ending.
