I recently returned from a vacation in Jamaica. The weather was fantastic, the food was outstanding, and the people were terrific! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip.
While we were on vacation, I decided to leave all aspects of my work routine behind, including my daily spiritual practices of affirming powerful thoughts, visualization, meditation, and reading or listening to spiritual Truth ideas. I thought that, since we were on vacation, these spiritual practices could be put on the back burner.
Was I wrong!
When I returned from our trip, I found myself in an emotional funk. I had a very hard time getting motivated to do anything for my business, my mood was very pessimistic, and I just wanted to sit on my recliner and do nothing. You might think that I was feeling sad because I was no longer on vacation, but that’s not the case. By the end of our trip, I was eagerly looking forward to going home.
What caused this emotional decline?
It took me a few days to realize it, but the reason is this – while I was on vacation, I stopped doing the things that help me control my thinking and emotions. I stopped doing my spiritual practices.
When we were at the resort, my husband and I went to the gym almost every day. I’ve been working out for decades and experience has taught me that I can’t afford to take off more than a week from my regular fitness routine without experiencing a slide backwards. I knew that it would be a struggle to get back to my previous fitness levels if I slacked off for too long.
What I didn’t realize is that I needed to do the same thing with my spiritual practices. I needed to continue doing them while I was away so I didn’t lose ground.
It’s very easy to fall into negative thinking patterns if you don’t diligently and deliberately control your thoughts on a regular basis. Negative thoughts don’t take a vacation. They’re just waiting for you to relax and slack off and then they are ready to return with a vengeance.
Once they take hold, it can be challenging to get them to back off again. Whatever you think about, you eventually bring about, so staying in a negative mood was not an option for me.
I’m happy to say that I have returned to my spiritual practices and I feel like I’ve come out on the other side. I feel more optimistic and motivated to work on growing my business and to sharing my insights with women like you.
The most important thing you need to know about using spiritual practices is that you must continue with them no matter what is going on in your life.
It is only by doing daily spiritual practices that you can achieve dominion over your personal world. And when you have dominion, you have the ability co-create the success and abundance that you desire.
